Cyclicity (2016)

Natasha Beste and Matthew Daher collaboration

Video, 9m

‘Cyclicality’ is a work by video artist, Natasha Beste, specifically created to be part of composer/musician Matthew Daher’s ‘Dwelling Lightheartedly In The Futility Of Everything’ EP Release/Multimedia Performance,’ at MOCAD, Detroit, MI on February 13, 2015. Dwelling Lightheartedly In The Futility of Everything is the culmination of 4 years of explorations in groove-driven songwriting, with studio production guided by electroacoustic gesture and manipulation, Dwelling weaves ambient, noise, and post-rock sensibilities into cerebral and emotive compositions inspired by artists such as Georgia Anne Muldrow, J Dilla, and Bjork. Developed around the music of the release, a multimedia performance explores themes addressed in the compositions: infinite regress, meditation, chronic anxiety, and the volatility of romantic emotional entanglement. Featuring the Detroit video and movement artists Christina De Roos, Kevin Eckert, Costa Sirdenis, Goran Butorac, Maggie Piellusch, Alex Pavlov, Natasha Beste, Rachel Ann Harbert, Lisa LaMarre, Marianne Brass, Angela Sutcliffe, Shanice Rollins, and Rena Hertrich. With Dial81 DJ sets before and after the performance.
